Overview
Luxury spas are designed around calm, privacy, and discretion—exactly what guests expect. But for therapists working one-to-one behind closed doors, that same privacy can create a safety blind spot. A leading luxury hotel spa needed a panic alarm solution that would protect staff in the moments that matter, while preserving ambience and aesthetics.
Comms-Spec delivered a fully wireless panic alarm system that sits quietly in the background, enabling therapists to call for help instantly and discreetly, with alerts routed to the right teams and pinpointed to the exact room.

The challenge
Spa therapists often work in enclosed, tranquil spaces where privacy is essential. Treatment rooms can be sound-insulated, doors may be closed or locked, and there is typically no CCTV in these environments. Staff also avoid carrying phones or smart devices during treatments—both to maintain the guest experience and to keep the environment free of distractions.
In the rare but serious event of inappropriate or threatening behaviour, seconds matter. The spa’s priority was clear: give therapists a simple, immediate way to trigger assistance—without changing the look and feel of the space, and without requiring hardwired infrastructure or disruptive works.

The Comms-Spec solution
Comms-Spec deployed a wire-free panic alarm system built around two components:
Wireless panic buttons
Small, discreet buttons can be placed wherever staff need them most—mounted in a room or worn on the body using a lanyard, wrist band, clip, or custom wearable. Because they are battery powered, they can be positioned without wiring or construction, and batteries are designed to last for years.
Compact hubs connected to the site network
Hubs connect to the local Wi-Fi, and the panic buttons connect to hubs via Bluetooth. This enables completely wireless button placement while still providing a robust path for alerts to reach the right recipients.

Implementation in a luxury hotel spa
The goal was maximum discretion with immediate access.Buttons were installed behind the doors in each treatment room, secured neatly so they remain hidden from guests but reachable in seconds by the therapist. A small number of hubs were installed out of sight in storage cupboards, fixed securely and kept neat to align with the standards expected in a premium hospitality environment.
The result is a solution that blends into the space: no intrusive wall boxes, no visible cabling in guest areas, and no aesthetic compromise—just a discreet safety layer integrated into daily operations.

How the response works
If an incident occurs, the therapist presses the panic button. That single press triggers an instant automatic alarm to nominated response points—typically Spa Reception and the Security Office—clearly identifying which room the alert is coming from.
Knowing the precise location enables a faster, more targeted response. Teams don’t need to guess where the issue is happening or lose time calling around. They can move immediately to the correct room with the right personnel.
Alert routing is configurable. Notifications can be sent to multiple desks or departments on site, delivered via desktop or smart device, and escalated via email and SMS. If required, alarms can also be monitored by an external monitoring provider who can manage escalation and coordinate authorities.

Why this approach works in luxury hospitality
This solution fits the operational and brand realities of premium spas and hotels:
1
Discreet by design
Buttons can be hidden in plain sight—accessible to staff, invisible to guests.
2
Quick to deploy, minimal disruption
No hardwiring or building works are required. Hubs need only power and network connectivity, and buttons can be installed anywhere.
3
Scales effortlessly
One hub can support large numbers of buttons, making it cost-effective to extend coverage across rooms and zones.
4
Low maintenance
Long battery life and simple components reduce ongoing overhead while keeping the system ready at all times.
